Bring community voices into disaster rebuilding and infrastructure planning

In an op-ed piece for The Hill, Laurie Schoeman, national program director at Enterprise Community Partners, provides recommendations to increase the resilience of regions with an equity lens. In light of the natural disasters, from wildfires to hurricanes, that have ravaged the U.S. recently, she notes the importance of investing in resilient infrastructure to protect lives and save costs. She urges us to include all voices in the rebuilding effort given the disproportionate impact of climate events on low-income communities and people of color.

Many regions including SPARCC sites like Chicago and Los Angeles, are identifying solutions that address climate resiliency and respond to community needs. Read Laurie’s full piece to hear her recommendations to positively shape our regions for the future.
